What's inside

Everything you need to prepare

Built for first-time test-takers. Plain language, big buttons, no jargon.

🎤

AI mock interviews

Practice with a virtual USCIS officer — friendly, strict, or fast. The officer greets you, asks your name, has you promise to tell the truth, then works through civics questions and tells you whether you passed. You get feedback after every spoken answer.

📚

All 228 civics questions

Both the 100-question (2008) and 128-question (2025) tests, plus the simplified 20-question track for 65+ applicants. Browse by topic, search by keyword, study at your pace.

📅

Personalized study plan

Tell us your interview date — we rotate through Government, History, and Civics by week, schedule reading and writing on alternating days, and add mock interviews every 3 days.

🚗

Car mode

Hands-free study for the drive or the walk. The app reads a question out loud, pauses so you can answer, then reads the answer back — no tapping, no reading. Choose a 3, 6, or 10-second pause to think.

👥

Partner mode

Hand your phone to a family member and let them quiz you. They see the accepted answers, you answer out loud, and they tap correct or incorrect — scored the same way the real test is.

🃏

Spaced-repetition flashcards

Tap to flip, then mark "got it" or "study more." Cards you find hard come back in a day or two; the ones you know come back weeks later — so your study time lands where it counts.

🔥

Daily question & streak

One new question every day, the same one for everybody. Answer it to keep your streak alive — a small habit that adds up over the months before your interview.

Lightning round

Sixty seconds on the clock and as many questions as you can answer. Beat your own best score and see which topics slow you down.

🗣️

Reading & writing practice

Hear the officer read a sentence out loud, read it back yourself, and mark how you did. For writing, listen to the dictation, type what you hear, and the app checks it against the sentence for you.

📋

N-400 filing guide

Step-by-step guidance on filing your N-400, a checkable list of what to bring, a walkthrough of the form section by section, and what to expect on interview day — in plain language, with links to the official USCIS pages.

🌎

English & Spanish

Switch the app between English and Spanish at any time. Civics content stays in English (that's what's tested), but explanations and the app interface follow your language.

📈

Progress tracking

Answer a question right twice in a row and it counts as mastered. See how each topic is coming along and where you still need practice, right up to interview day.

Frequently asked

Questions answered

Is ReadyCitizen affiliated with USCIS or the U.S. government?

No. ReadyCitizen is an independent study tool. We use the official USCIS civics questions because they are public information, but we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or representing USCIS.

Can I use it without paying?

Yes. Without paying you get 25 unique civics questions, 3 quiz attempts, and one full mock interview. On top of that, flashcards, the daily question, the lightning round, partner mode, reading and writing practice, and the N-400 guides have no limit at all. Car mode plays 5 questions per session on the free plan. Upgrade anytime for full daily practice.

Do you offer Spanish?

The app interface, daily plan, and explanations are available in Spanish. Civics content stays in English — that's what USCIS tests. Tap "Translate" on any question for a Spanish explanation.

What if I'm 65+ and have been a permanent resident for 20+ years?

You qualify for the simplified 65+ track. ReadyCitizen automatically gives you the simplified 20-question civics pool when you indicate this during onboarding.

Which test version should I prepare for?

If you filed your N-400 before October 20, 2025, you take the 100-question test (10 asked, need 6 correct). If you filed on or after October 20, 2025, you take the 128-question test (20 asked, need 12 correct). The app asks you which version applies during onboarding.

Is the AI mock interview the same as the real interview?

It mirrors the real interview format — the officer asks civics questions, scores your answer based on official accepted answers, and stops once you pass or fail. But it's a practice tool, not a guarantee. Real officers may phrase questions differently or follow up. Use ReadyCitizen to build confidence and identify gaps.

Does the app grade my pronunciation?

No, and we don't want to suggest otherwise. In reading practice you hear the officer read a sentence, read it aloud yourself, and mark whether you got it — the app is not listening. In writing practice you hear a dictation, type what you heard, and the app checks your typing against the sentence. The only place the app uses your voice is the AI mock interview, where your spoken answer is transcribed to check whether the answer is correct — not how you sound.

Can my family help me practice?

Yes. Partner mode puts the accepted answers on the screen for whoever is quizzing you — hand them your phone, answer out loud, and they tap correct or incorrect. And car mode reads questions and answers aloud with a pause in between, so you can practice while you drive or walk without touching the phone.

How do I delete my account?

Inside the app: Profile tab → "Delete my account" → confirm by typing your email. From outside the app: visit readycitizen.app/delete-account. We process deletions within 30 days.

How is my data used?

We use your data only to make the app work and improve it. We never sell your data. Your mock interview audio is sent to OpenAI for transcription and discarded immediately after — we don't keep recordings. Read the full privacy policy.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google according to their policies. For App Store purchases, request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. For Google Play, use the Play Store's refund flow within 48 hours of purchase. For other concerns, email hello@readycitizen.app.
